Following the resignation of Theresa May as Conservative party leader and Prime Minister, the race is on to see who will be her successor.

According to media reports, the current front runner is Boris Johnson, who has 114 Tory members of parliament backing him. Although the race is in its early stages, several people believe that he will be successful in not just become the conservative leader but the next UK Prime Minister.

However there are several pitfalls before him, firstly if he becomes PM will he be calling a general election so that he can get a mandate from the British people. He accused Gordon Brown in 2007 of ruling the country by default and not the will of the people so will he honour his words and go to the country.

According to a media report, the Chair of the Conservative Muslim accused Boris Johnson of targeting the Muslin community so that he can acquire votes. He is also threating to leave the party should Boris become Prime Minister.

Boris Johnson as not state yet whether he will be calling a general election, so the comments he made back in 2007 about Gordon Brown taking over Downing Street, and it amounts to a ‘palace coup’ and that without him winning an election tantamount to massive fraud. It is something that we cannot call him a hypocrite for yet because we still do not know what his plans are.

In my opinion, any individual that takes over the role of Prime Minister by default must go to the electorate to get a mandate to govern and if Boris wins his party support and become PM and fail to do so would make him the biggest hypocrite of all time.
