Gunmen kill two police in Pakistan

GUNMEN have killed two Shiite policemen in Pakistan’s southwest.

Police officer Amir Mohammad says the attack today at a checkpoint also wounded three bystanders in Quetta city, the capital of the sparsely populated, rugged province of Baluchistan.

He says both the dead men belong to minority Shiite community often targeted by al-Qaeda linked Sunni militant groups.

Baluchistan, rich in resources, has seen a low level insurgency by nationalist groups who want a bigger share of the revenues.

Pakistan has been under attack by militants since the May 2 US raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

On Saturday, a suicide bomber targeting pro-government tribal elders killed eight men in the troubled Bajur tribal region, near the Afghan border.
