Coalition – Already falling apart

Sandrea – My Gripe

With the resignation of David Laws over his expenses claims, we wait with bated breath as to what other skeletons will pop out of the closet and haunt this coalition government.

It always surprise  me when these high profile individuals are found guilty of committing offences that they know are wrongs, the lame excuses that they give.

Mr Laws as stated that he should not have paid for his long-time lover rent with expenses that he had claim and further added that he was sorry for his behaviour and that he would be paying back the money.

That is not good enough.  We expect politicians, although human beings, to have a slightly higher level of integrity than the average Joe Blogg.

The vast majority of individuals that had no confidence in this coalition, and I did state in a previous post that many Liberal Democrats must be turning in their grave seeing conservatives and LIBDEM in cahoots.  Mr Laws behaviour is only the first of many cracks that will damage this coalition government.

Following his resignation Mr Laws stated that  “I do not see how I can carry out my crucial work on the Budget and spending review while I have to deal with the private and public implications of recent revelations.” Well of course, he could not do so, what does he want sympathy from the public.  We are fresh out of sympathy for politicians like him.

To further add insult to injury the Prime Minister has the unmitigated gall of saying that Mr Laws is a “good and honourable man”.

For your information Mr Prime Minister, good and honourable man, do not use public funds for his own personal gains, good and honourable man do not conduct themselves in the manner in which David Laws has done, and if the Prime Minister believe that Mr Laws conduct are that of a good and honest man, then this country, with his leadership is in for a turbulent time.
