Briton who was kidnapped in Somalia flown to Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya—Save the Children says a British aid worker released by his captors Wednesday in Somalia has been flown to Kenya and reunited with his family.

Save the Children spokeswoman Anna Ford says Frans Barnard arrived in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Thursday afternoon and was safe and well.

Masked gunmen abducted the Briton and a Somali co-worker on Oct. 14 from a compound in the town of Adado, near the border with Ethiopia. The Somali was released earlier.

Ford said Barnard, who is in his late 40s, was carrying out an assessment of whether Save the Children could set up a program near Adado to feed malnourished children and their families.

He was released after clan elders intervened.
