A SEVEN-year-old British girl rode more than 965 kilometres across America to raise money for a cancer charity.
Skye Parnell, from Somerset, in southwestern England, pedaled 25 miles a day from Washington, D.C., to Pittsburgh and back again in three weeks, Britain’s The Daily Telegraph
The amazing ride echoed the long-distance efforts of Tom Hanks’ character Forrest Gump, who ran across America in the 1994 film of the same name. Her parents Ben Parnell, 34, and Naomi Leech, 35, who are both teachers, accompanied Skye on the ride. Their efforts raised £500 ($870) for the Ellen MacArthur Trust, which supports children recovering from cancer. reported. The youngster covered an incredible 46 miles on the last day of her trip, which in total covered 610 miles.
“She never complained and cycled so hard, even on the last day, which exhausted me after we traveled 46 miles,” her father said. Skye’s grandparents even joined the journey. Each of the four adults pulled a trailer behind their bike with camping equipment, and they slept in tents on the side of the road each night.
“There were a few hairy moments with some rattlesnakes at one point,” Mr Parnell said.
