JDF dismisses claims by Seaga

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) this afternoon dismissed claims by former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga that the army has defied orders from Prime Minister Bruce Golding to pull out of Tivoli Gardens.

Colonel Rocky Meade says the military was asked to allow residents to move about the community without restrictions and this was done yesterday.

In a wide-ranging television interview last night, Mr Seaga questioned whether Prime Minister Golding was in charge of the army.

Mr Seaga said his position is based on information he had that Mr Golding tried to get the army out of Tivoli Gardens but was ignored.

“I am not aware that the army has or would ever defy an order from the chairman of the National Defence Board,” said Colonel Meade.
