FROM caring for a seriously-ill relative to helping disabled children play cricket, all of last night’s Community Champions were winners for very different reasons.
They ranged in age from 14 to 81 – but each one of their stories could not fail to bring a tear to the eye of those who gathered to watch them receive their awards.
Perhaps one of the most moving stories of the night was that of David Beard.
The 47-year-old, who gave up his job to look after his ill mother Sheila, last night broke down in tears as he was presented with the Carer award by former Heartbeat actor Steven Blakeley.
