Man critical after town centre attack leaves him with serious head injuries

A 24-YEAR-OLD man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was attacked in Burton town centre.

The victim suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the town’s Queen’s Hospital.  He was then transferred to the Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre where he remained in a critical condition today.  Police said the man, from Branston, was injured during a disturbance outside the Corner House pub in Worthington Way at 5.15am on Sunday.

The road was cordoned off while police carried out investigations but has since reopened.  Chief Superintendent Mick Harrison said: “This was a serious assault which is being thoroughly investigated by our Major Investigations Department.

“Although several people have come forward, we know that there were numerous people in the area at the time, and we’re very keen to speak to any witnesses, including taxi drivers.”  Police arrested a 25-year-old man from Burton shortly after the incident on suspicion of assault.
