Why top jobs should not go to foreigner Nationals

By Sandrea:- MY GRIPE

It would be inconceivable that the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police would be appointed from say Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, or for that matter any of the Caribbean Islands.

For Trinidad and Tobago to be even contemplating a Canadian citizen for it’s top police job, should be unconstitutional.  There must be someone qualify in Trinidad to be able to hold that position and do so in an effect way.

I can agree with Counsel Israel Khan, that to do so would be taking a step backward in time.  I further agree that no one, absolutely no foreigner should hold those position in a native country.

It is commendable when they are asked to come to the islands and share ideas, I would even go as far as they can be effective advisers to the police services in the Caribbean, but under no circumstances should they be appointed to that position.

Those kind of appointment make it appears to the international world that these countries are incapable of managing their affairs.  Irrespective of the problems that exist in these country we should realise that these are democratically elect countries and as such the citizens of these countries do not elect their government in order that they can employ foreigners to run one of the most fundamental part of the country system.

What would a former retired  (RCMP), like Neal Parke would have to offer to the police service in Trinidad, that the individuals who are there don’t have?  For Trinidad to be even contemplating this actions is disgraceful and make the country looks as if it his incapable of managing and policing the streets of Trinidad and Tobago effectively.

I am sure that under no circumstances would Canada employ a Trinidad and Tobago national to head up it’s police force, and as such there should be no consideration of this by Trinidad. I hope they take the advice of Mr Khan who has been practising law for well over 31 years
