Update – Crooks in custody

Former commandant of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) Harold Crooks is now in police custody.

Mr. Crooks fled Jamaica in March after he was accused of carnal abuse.

Commanding officer for St. Ann Superintendent Gary Griffiths says Mr. Crooks was arrested at the Ocho Rios pier in St. Ann around 8 a.m.this morning.

He was found aboard the vessel, Carnival Liberty, which entered Jamaica from the Cayman Islands after leaving the United States,” said Superintendent Griffiths.

Mr. Crooks had called the Gleaner/Power106 News Centre late March claiming that the incident for which he’s being sought by the police involves a 16 year old girl with whom he had a brief relationship.

He said that contrary to the reports which were made to the police, he did not have sexual relations with the girl until after her sixteenth birthday, and with her consent.

He also revealed that he had no intention of returning to Jamaica, as he feared that he would not be given a fair hearing.
