Police hold person of interest

A man the St Catherine North police believe can assist them in their investigation into the murder of four persons on Jones Avenue, Spanish Town, St Catherine, has been taken into custody.

The police say the man, who is in his early 20s, was found with bloody clothes and a cut on his body. He was said to have been held in the Jones Avenue community.

THE STAR learnt that police personnel, acting on information, went into the community about 9 p.m. on Thursday and arrested the man. His name is being withheld by the police pending further investigation.

Approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, four residents of Jones Avenue ‘Backlands’ were killed after their throats were slashed and they received several stab wounds.

Those killed were, David Williams, 34; Clayton Simpson, 29; Garnet Gregg, 45 and 42-year-old Sandra Wint, all of Jones Avenue.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Greene, said the police would be working hard to bring the killers to justice.

He, however, expressed concern about the almost inaccessible roads in the community where the crime took place.

The police are still maintaining a presence in the area until normalcy returns.
