Muslim – Women Burka versus Europe

By Sandrea:- MY GRIPE

Following Phillip Hollobone’s, Member of Parliament Kettering, decision to refusal to meet with members of his constituency who wear the burka to his constituent surgery and the subsequent letter of warning that he was sent by lawyers from liberty. It is going to be interesting to see whether, he abides by the warning letter or whether he defies the letter and carry out his threats to not meet with these women should they refuse to remove their veils, burka, or hijab.

Given the fact that France, Belgium, Barcelona, and section of Italy has the ban in place, it does not seem to be that these European countries are breaking any human rights laws, and I am yet to see the wearer of these garments challenging these countries.

It was reported in the newspaper a few days ago where a popular Saudi Cleric said that “it was permissible for Muslim women to reveal their faces in countries where the Islamic veil is banned”.  Considering that Saudi Arabia, remains one of the Islamic country that women wear full face veils and are forced to cover their hair with head scarf. It would further appear that some Islamic cleric believe that these garments are not obligation but tradition.

So, if an Islamic country is advising Muslim women that they can in fact remove their veils in the countries with the ban, why is Phillip Hollobone been threaten with legal action if he refuse to deal with constituent wearing the veil, although the UK do not have the ban, this is Mr Hollobone personal beliefs.

I imagine that Saudi Arabia, have arrive at the conclusion, even if they are opposed to these bans, is that if Muslim women want to be dressed in these garments they should refuse to travel to European countries with the ban, or that they believe the vast majority of the Europeans believe it is repressive for women to wear the veil, burka or hijab.

We should never, agree with any kind of repression that is aimed at minority, however, that fact that Philip Hollobone has made his position clear, I cannot see many veil, burka or hijab wearing Muslim women queueing up to go to his constituent surgery.  I made disagree with Mr Hollobone’s decision, but I have to respect him for the fact that he has been open and above board with his feelings.  He could have undertaken his objections to these women wearing these garments in a clandestine manner, and this would be appalling.
