‘Brokeback Coalition’

By Sandrea:- MY GRIPE

Following business secretary Vince Cable comments in the Evening Standard that “it was difficult working with former political opponents”.  I cannot understand why anyone would be surprised.

There are past and present Liberal Democratic supporter that is still finding it difficult to get their head around this Tory Lib Dem coalition.  May’s election where the country decided to give the Labour party a ‘bloody nose’ and to ensure that the Tories did not have an overall majority, at first I believe the British people were silly in the way they voted.  However, I have taken back that, I now believe the British voters were very clever, much more clever than they are given credit for.

Having not given any one party an overall majority, we can see how far individuals will go to ‘sell their souls’ for power, and that became very evident with the current Coalition Government that we ended up with.

Conservative and Lib Dem has nothing in common, however, the Lib Dem saw their chance to influence a Government and they would, of course, throw their principles out the window just so that they can taste power.  The Lib Dem are not stupid, they are well aware that they would under no circumstances be in a position to hold power on their own and this golden handshake they have been given by the British voters, is nothing short of a miracle.

So, it should not be surprising that there are individuals that have concerns about the pack.  It would not take Einstein to work out that there are a lot of concerns behind the scene, and although each side is portraying that the coalition is in fact solid, there must be major concerns among either party members.  One have to understand that this Coalition is among two parties that have never seen eye to eye on most subject so if they could not agree when they were in opposition, why would anybody believe forming a coalition government would sudden make them firm allies.

I hope for the sake of the country that the Coalition hold for the next four years, but if I was a betting person I would be going to William Hill to place a bet, and I am going to reserve from saying how I would be betting – this is a wait and see for all of us.
