More arrests in fake cigarette scam

DETECTIVES from the Organised Crime Investigative Division (OCID) are now searching a wholesale establishment at Heywood Street in downtown, Kinston after an early morning raid at Russell Heights in St Andrew.

Two persons have been arrested.

The police went to a house at Lewisville Avenue in the upscale neighbourhood and seized several items including bleaching products, cigarettes, cash and diapers.  After dropping off the haul of illegal goods at the OCID headquarters, the cops swarmed the wholesale establishment and are now seizing several items.  The raid drew the stares of curious onlookers who are now gathered behind the police cordon.

Earlier this week Jason Kong and Yun Feng Zhang were remanded in custody when they appeared in court.  They were arrested after cops from OCID raided a house at Beverly Hills and seized several million dollars, expensive liquor and fake cigarettes last week. Investigators in that case have reportedly been threatened and police say drug dealers are turning to the trade in illicit cigarettes which has been bleeding the profits of local cigarettes manufacturer, Carreras LTD.
