Man stabbed with syringe during attempted robbery

A MAN has been stabbed with a syringe during an attempted robbery near Newcastle.

Police are hunting two attackers who set upon the 32-year-old victim after demanding his wallet as he walked along Fowler Street, Hamilton South last night.

The victim was stabbed in the arm after he refused to hand over his belongings.

During the assault all three fell to the ground when the man was stabbed.

He was able to get up and flee his attackers and return home before contacting police and reporting the incident.

The 32-year-old was later taken by ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital for medical examination.

Police are looking for two males who have only been described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in their mid-20s.
