BATON ROUGE, La.—Louisiana health officials are suspending the license of an abortion clinic after an investigation found health and safety risks to women.
Officials on Friday ordered the Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport to immediately cease abortions.
Officials say the clinic had several violations, including failing to ensure that a physician performed and documented a physical exam prior to a procedure.
It’s the first time the health department has shut down a facility since Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a bill in June giving the agency the power to do so.
Kathleen Pittman, the clinic’s patient service manager, says she knew nothing about the license suspension.
