Kids among 11 slain in 12 hours

St Catherine has been bathed in blood as 11 persons were killed in 12 hours, including a seven-month-old baby and an eight-year-old boy.

About 2:30 on Tuesday morning, the seven-month-old was at home with her mother and another sibling at Corletts Avenue, near March Pen Road.

The baby burned to death after persons firebombed the house. The mother and another child sustained severe burns.  Three other residents at 19 March Pen Road were later shot and killed.  They have been identified as Alvin Stewart, 55, unemployed; Denniston Pitter, a 56-year-old electrician; and 53-year-old Errol Miller.

Meanwhile, police personnel who attempted to visit the scene came under attack from gunmen. After reinforcements were called in, the police eventually gained entry.  While concluding those initial investigations, the cops were again called to a triple murder in McCooks Pen, also in the parish.   When they reached, the bodies of Peter McBean, 38, a security guard; Dwayne Murray, 23; and 26-year-old Albert Sankey, all of McCooks Pen, were found.

A 14-year-old was also shot and injured in the incident. Up to press time, he was still in hospital.  Police reports are that the four were playing a game of dominoes at a bar when a car drove up and occupant/s fired high-powered weapons, hitting all four. They then drove away, leaving a number of bullet casings behind.

On Monday, a group of persons were standing in an area called ‘Monkey Town’ about 9:30 p.m. when a car drove up and shots were fired.  Eight-year-old Omarley Daley; Lenworth Thomas, a 30-year-old security guard; and 16-year-old Sashel Brissett were killed. Two other persons remain in hospital.   No motives have been established by the Spanish Town police, who are investigating the incidents.
