Infant in critical condition after being left alone in bathtub

A 6-month-old boy is in critical condition after being left in a bathtub with running water Thursday afternoon.

The mother of the boy left him in the bathtub at about 1:30 p.m. when she went to check her e-mails, Phoenix fire spokesman Jonathan Jacobs said. She was reportedly gone for 3 minutes to 5 minutes.

When she returned, she found the child was without a pulse. She didn’t have a phone so she started screaming and went outside of the apartment to find help.

She found two people who work at the apartment complex at 7th Street and Bell Road. They rendered CPR on the boy. Two police officers were close to the complex. They arrived and performed CPR on the child.

Firefighters arrived afterward and found the child not breathing. They started CPR and gave him adrenaline but he still was not breathing. The child was in critical condition as he was rushed to a local hospital.
