England face ‘do-or-die’ match

England are facing a “do-or-die” World Cup clash with Slovenia, as the nation holds its breath in expectation.

After disappointing draws against the USA and Algeria, skipper Steven Gerrard reassured fans the players were hungry for victory.

And manager Fabio Capello said the team was fully focused on the match with any spats in the camp already forgotten.

England fans travelling to Port Elizabeth, also known as the “Windy City”, were out in force on Tuesday night vowing to cheer the team on.

Many took to the Boardwalk opposite King’s Beach, where they were enjoying the bars, restaurants and casino.

One flipped a coin into the fountain and said hopefully: “World Cup final.”

England need a win against Slovenia to guarantee a place in the knockout stages.

And after booing the team off the pitch following their dismal 0-0 draw with Algeria, the fans were demanding more passion from the team.

Gerrard, 30, said: “It is a do-or-die situation. We need to perform, we need to improve on the last performance.”

Meanwhile, Capello admitted it was possible he had made mistakes. But he insisted the players were focused and happy ahead of the game. And he said he was confident striker Wayne Rooney would be firing on all cylinders.
