Egypt’s Mubarak to stand trial over shootings

EGYPT’S former president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons will stand trial over the killing of protesters, the public prosecutor said today.

The prosecutor referred Mubarak – who has been detained for several weeks pending an investigation – to a criminal court on charges of killing protesters, abuse of power and wasting public funds.

The 83-year-old was overthrown Feb. 11 after more than two weeks of sometimes violent protests against his 30-year rule. Tens of thousands of demonstrators have called for his trial, AFP reported.
