Criminal groups terrorising rural Russia

TWELVE people at a traditional supper celebrating Russia’s national unity day have been killed, including four young children, in a massacre that has shocked the country and prompted the firing of several high-level police.

Bandits from a local criminal group broke into the house in the southern Krasnodar region stabbed 10 of the diners to death and suffocated two others in a bloodbath that lasted one-and-a-half hours.

Six suspects have been arrested from a criminal group that used violence to control the region’s fertile land aided by officials turning a blind eye.

Analysts say the crime has shown up one of the greatest malaises of modern Russia collusion between criminals and serving officials in the provinces.
