Caught up – Tivoli, not even children are spared.

The Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke affair as taken a new low in my opinion.

I find it really offensive to see a picture of a school-girl having her school bag search by a members of the arm forces.

Jamaicans, may have given their lives to protect Mr Coke, and those that have done so we can no longer take back the decisions that they have made because they have already lost their life, (many by choice).

However, Jamaican children are not thought to hurl petrol bombs, wooden stick, stones, and bottles at security forces.  In fact the majority of Jamaican children are taught to respect security forces, whether it is the police or army services.  So, it upset me to see this child having her school bag being searched by this soldier.

I can agree that the security forces need to keep a foot-hold into Tivoli Gardens, and given the actions of the last few days they should firmly established themselves into that community to prevent any kind of gang active to fester and grow. However, I do not want to see the security forces targeting the children.

The mayhem and melee of the last four days have already left many children without one or either parents.  Those children are now going to be reared by family members and that is already difficult for many.  Irrespective of what the criminal elements may be up to, the security forces should not draw the children into it.  Even if it is just the one child that has been search (and I doubt that) it is one too many.

Jamaican criminals may be the lowest of the lowest, but they have not gotten so far that they are using children to fight the security forces,  they are well aware that the fastest way to get them isolated is to bring children into their fight,  although, many Jamaicans may fight to protect Mr Coke, they take a dim view if children are drawn into the mix.
