Having read the heart-rending story about Gary Freeman life and his struggle to go back to Canada, I honestly believe that the Canadian authority needs to give this man a second chance.
He has lived in Canada for half his life, he has been a productive person, he has raised a family that most would envy to have. He has instill pride and dignity in his family when he could have easily instill resentment and bitterness, and this ought to account for something.
The fact, that there is no concrete evidence that he was ever a member of the ‘Black Panther’ are was affiliated with same should not be used against him, and should have no bearing on the decision making process, to admit him back into Canada.
Gary Freeman, should be give the credit he deserved for the manner in which he has conducted himself for over 30 years. Many people who did not live through the nightmare of being an African American during the 70’s would not understand the reason that Mr Freeman behave as he did. However, there are more than enough documented proof as to the manner in which African Americans were treated during that decade.
Mr Freeman may have made mistakes, but he has paid for them and I do not think he should be branded a terrorist or that he was affiliated with any terrorist organisation.
Come on Canada, the man has lived on your shores for 30 years, he has lived an exemplary life, and if that is not a good reason to grant him re-entry into the country, I do not know what is.
Let him go back to his family, let him see his grandchild born, do not treat him the same way he was treated which made him come to your shore in the first place. Life is about give people a second chance at life and if this case does not make the authority realise that human being do make mistakes and give him back to his family then I am afraid we are heading down a very slippery slope – Forgiveness is divine.
I hope the Canadian authority will make the right decision for the sake of Gary and his loving family
