Bomb alert forces Pakistan plane to land

A BOMB alert forced a Pakistan International airlines (PIA) plane to land at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport, state-run Anatolia news agency reported.

Security officials with sniffer dogs searched the plane, Anatolia said.

The bomb alert, which came as the aircraft was flying over the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, caused panic among passengers, the agency said.

The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300EA carrying 378 passengers, had departed from the British city of Manchester and was bound to Islamabad, the Turkish news channel HaberTurk said.
