3-year-old dies after being pulled from Glendale pool

A 3-year-old boy died at Glendale hospital after he was pulled from an apartment complex pool Saturday evening, authorities said.

Glendale firefighters responded to the call of a child drowning around 8:15 p.m. at an apartment complex near 61st and Northern avenues, said Glendale fire spokesman Daniel Valenzuela.

The boy was taken to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, where he was initially listed in serious condition. He was later pronounced dead, Glendale Police Department Sgt. Jim Cunningham said on Sunday.

Several unanswered questions remain. It is not known how long the boy was underwater or who pulled him out, Valenzuela said.   Glendale police are investigating, but so far, it is unknown if the boy lives at the apartment complex or if he was visiting.  There were other family members in the pool, including adults, Valenzuela said.

This is the third water incident in Glendale in approximately three weeks, Valenzuela said.   “It’s such a sad reminder to watch your kids around water,” he said on Saturday.
