Zip on mother’s jeans leaves six-inch gash on son’s forehead

A mother from south London has demanded that a major high street clothing chain recall a brand of jeans after she says the zip cut her two-year-old’s face.

Natasha Claxton, a 27-year-old public relations manager, bought the £25 New Look jeans in Colliers Wood, where she lives. When her son Harrison hugged her she claims the zip pull sliced his forehead, eyebrow and the side of his face, leaving a six-inch scar.

Miss Claxton said that she had also cut her own finger on the mechanism. She said: “It’s a really clean cut — it looks like he’s had a lucky escape with a shard of glass in a car accident or something.”

She said the accident has made her “sick” and called on New Look to avoid it happening to other children.

She said: “Harrison came to hug me around the waist when his face got caught on the zip.

“Without realising, I carried him downstairs and when we got there he was covered in blood. The blood was everywhere. Every time I think about it I start shaking again.”

A spokesman for New Look today said: “This is an unfortunate incident which New Look are treating seriously. We are currently investigating the
matter.

“All our products undergo stringent quality control as the safety of our products and customers is paramount. If the fault lies with the garment then the customer and/or child will be compensated accordingly.”
