US tourist accused in Puerto Rico hotel killing

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—A New Jersey man is facing murder and weapon possession charges connected to a killing in the parking lot of a high-end resort in a popular tourist area of Puerto Rico’s capital, police said.

According to a police statement late Friday, George Tsouratakis, 33, is accused of stabbing Orlando Ramos Ortiz, 45, during a deal Tuesday that authorities in San Juan have said involved drugs and prostitutes.

Also injured during the incident at La Concha Resort was Denisse Almeida, 28, who was stabbed in the stomach, and Tsouratakis, who was stabbed in the leg, police said in another statement earlier in the week.

Col. Juan Sergio Rubin was quoted in the newspaper El Nuevo Dia as saying Ramos often took prostitutes to hotels in San Juan’s ritzy Condado neighborhood. Neither Rubin nor other officers involved in the case could be reached for comment Saturday.

Tsouratakis has said that another man was responsible for killing Ramos, according to police.

Defense lawyer Antonio Figueroa was quoted as saying that Tsouratakis is a victim and that he only tried to help Almeida after the other unidentified man and Ramos got into a fight.
