A FATHER has accidentally hit and killed his son after the young boy got out of the family’s car in northwestern NSW.
Police said they believe the three-year-old got out of his father’s Toyota Landcruiser table top 4WD when the vehicle stopped at a property near Brewarrina shortly after 9am (AEST) today.
The boy’s father checked his mirrors before moving off from the property.
The 43-year-old father then returned to the property two hours later and discovered his son motionless near to where he had earlier manoeuvred the 4WD.
The father contacted police who attended and established a crime scene. Forensic officers also examined the area.
Initial investigations indicate there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the child’s death, police said.
A full report will be prepared for the coroner.
