Snowstorm halts flights in US

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled in the northeastern United States after the second major snow storm this winter pounded the region.

Hundreds of international and internal flights have been cancelled and postponed at New York and Boston airports, but delays were expected to be shorter than during the Christmas storm that paralysed the area for nearly a week.

New York City’s streets nevertheless remained open as hundreds of show ploughs were quick to respond to the storm which dumped more than 20cm of snow in the New York area, AFP reported.
