Robert Green has been dropped from the England side to face Algeria tonight, with David James replacing him in goal, according to reports.
Green, who was set for a one-on-one meeting with coach Fabio Capello this morning, appears to have paid the price for last weekend’s woeful World Cup blunder during the 1-1 draw with the United States.
Yesterday Capello insisted he would forget all about Green’s mistake when making his team selection.
Portsmouth shot-stopper James was heavily backed to make a return yesterday.
But Capello insisted when he did make the call, it would not be done on the basis of a single incident.
Capello said: “I have to choose the value of different players, not just think about their mistakes. I have to justify selecting the keeper I choose.”
