POLICE have seized more than $200,000 worth of illegal drugs, weapons and cash in a series of raids across Melbourne’s west.

Police swooped on 16 homes in St Albans, Sunshine West, Derrimut, Cairnlea, Albanvale, Burnside, and Footscray in the last week and uncovered heroin, ice, ecstasy, cannabis and magic mushrooms and drug-making equipment, including four heroin presses.

Police estimated the drugs had a street value of about $30,000.  Weapons found included a stun gun, samurai sword, machete, ninja stars and ninja claws.  About $90,000 cash and $94,000 in cheques and alleged proceeds of crime including laptop computers, jewellery and perfume were also seized.

Seven men were arrested and charged with a range of offences including possessing and trafficking heroin, handling stolen goods, possessing proceeds of crime and possessing prohibited weapons.  Three men will be charged on summons and a 32-year-old Sunshine North man has been remanded to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court at a later date.

A 17-year-old Sunshine North woman was ordered to a diversion program after she was found in possession of heroin.   Sunshine crime investigation unit Senior Sergeant Fred Grove said the operation would have an impact on drug trafficking in the region.
