Old man, young ting

RELATIONSHIPS today vary in terms of their configuration. One such that is gaining popularity and acceptance, is the older man and the younger woman. The difference in age can be as wide as 30-40 years.

Some young women give the reasons for dating or even marrying older men as:

*He is loving, caring and knows how to treat a woman.

*He provides financial and emotional security.

*He pays college tuition and ensures a roof over her head.

*He makes little demands on her to cook, wash and clean.

*He is an experienced lover.

*He is the “father” she never had.

The older men say:

*She is full of energy and makes him feel young again.

*She is very sexy and has the perfect body.

*She is intelligent.

*She is bright and ambitious.

*She is adventurous in the sack.

*She encourages him to live a healthy lifestyle.

If you are contemplating such a relationship, consider the following:

*The fact that both parties are miles apart in terms of life experiences and expectations, if not handled with love and care, this can pose a challenge with many interpersonal conflicts.

*Some men who enter these relationships are only striving desperately to deal with that frightening transition called mid- life crisis.

*Some women who enter these relationships are only seeking to fill the father-daughter void that was missing in childhood.

*The man tends to be insecure and jealous as he quite aware that chances are she might leave him for a younger man.

*The man’s fatherly instincts kick in from time to time to the extent that he comes across as being overprotective and overbearing.

*The man may have one of those ailments that affects his mobility and agility and may be unfit and unappealing, being a sexual turn-off to his partner.

*The man may not understand or be able to keep up with her youthful exuberance.

*The man not be able to keep up with her insatiable appetite for sex.

Before two people enter a relationship where one partner is much older than the other, it is important that they openly discuss the challenges that may arise. They also have to be prepared to deal with the opposition they will get from family and friends.
