LONDON—Officials who control London’s financial district are urging a judge to evict anti-capitalist protesters camped outside London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral, calling it a magnet for disorder and crime.
Members of the Occupy London movement are in the High Court this week to fight attempts to remove the camp of some 150 tents.
The nonviolent protest has been in place outside St. Paul’s since mid-October. The City of London Corporation, which controls the area around the church, has argued that the right to protest do not justify a semi-permanent campsite affecting the rights of worshippers.
Lawyer David Forsdick also said Monday that the camp attracted “vulnerable people” including drug addicts.
Judge Keith Lindblom said he will visit the campsite Monday evening to assess the situation.
