Jailed rapper Lil Wayne put in solitary

GRAMMY-Award winning rapper Lil Wayne has been moved into solitary confinement to serve the remainder of his prison sentence on a weapons charge.

He was placed into punitive segregation in New York’s Rikers Island prison after he was caught with a battery charger and earphones for an MP3 player, both considered contraband by jail officials, sources have told the New York Post.

Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, will spend up to 23 hours a day in the isolation cell until his November 4 release, the sources have said.

The rapper, who turned 28 last week while in jail, will only be allowed out to shower, see visitors and go to the doctor, if needed.

He will also have only one hour of recreation time – separate from other inmates, the sources said.

Wayne was sentenced to a year in prison in March after a .40-cal Springfield Armory semiautomatic handgun was found on his tour bus in New York.
