A CCTV image of a man seen walking alongside a teenager shortly before she was raped has been released by police.

Detectives want to speak to the man in connection with the attack in Hastings in the early hours of 11 April.

The victim, an 18-year-old from Tunbridge Wells, was targeted near St Leonards Warrior Square train station at about 0400 BST.

Following the attack, a man was seen running from the scene along London Road and entering Silchester Road.

Det Ch Insp Simon Jones, of British Transport Police, said: “The man pictured in the CCTV images was seen walking alongside the victim shortly before she was attacked.

“We are keen to identify him as he could hold vital information in relation to the incident.

“We urge the man himself or anyone who recognises him to get in touch.”

A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape has been released on police bail until 12 May pending further inquiries.
