Hanover heats up with violence

Sections of Hanover could have been mistaken for the crime-ridden parish of St James on Thursday night after three gun-related incidents left one man dead and four others injured, including three men who allegedly opened fire on each other.

The partially burnt body of a man, who remained unidentified at press time, was found at the Orchard playing field yesterday morning by a passer-by.

The Gleaner understands that about 9 p.m., residents reported hearing explosions in the area. Some even disclosed that there was the smell of something burning as well.

“I have a feeling that the pressure police are putting on the criminals in St James might cause criminals to migrate to Hanover,” said Horace Wright, president of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce.

“What I hope is that the police will be proactive in looking out for these men who may be looking for safe havens.”

Following the shooting in Orchard, a man was shot and injured in the community of Kew.

Some time later, there was an incident in the Green Island area. It is alleged that two men went to the house of another man and a shoot-out allegedly ensued among the three.

All three were injured and have been admitted to hospital.
