Guns – Will we ever learn?

By Sandrea: MY GRIPE

The senseless massacre of 12 people in a picture perfect village like Whitehaven, will once again put the ownership of gun back in the public domain.

When will we ever learn? Although as the saying goes ‘guns don’t kill people, people do’ is no consolation to the number of families that are grieving today because some idiot that has nothing better to do decided that not only is he going to take his own useless life but those of others who had nothing to will the problems he was going through, is more than cause for concern.

Politicians are telling us not to have a knee-jerk reaction to the carnage that Derrick Bird was allowed to undertake, with the guns that he was licensed to have, but a knee-jerk reaction is exactly what we are going to have.  Given reports that Derrick Bird should never have permission to own, much less carry guns following previous convictions that he has will make people very angry, and so we should.

This is not Iraq, this is the United Kingdom, and one should be able to walk freely on any streets, in any village without having their lives taken by some idiotic man that has nothing better to do.

There is no way that the relatives of the 12 people that lost their lives, is going to  feel anything but very irate that this man who robbed them of their love ones was allowed the luxury of owning firearms that allowed him to murder people indiscriminately.

Irrespective of the problems that Derrick Bird face, he had no right to rob other people of their lives, if he did not want to face his own demons, he had the right to take his own life, but to take others with him shows the level of the man scorn for human lives.

How many more villages in the UK has to go through this kind of turmoil, before some body say enough is enough.  There has to be a way that we can better control the use of guns.  The fact that we have already opening the Pandora box and let loose guns, unfortunately we cannot shut it now, but what politicians should do is have safe-guards in place to make it very hard for the likes of Derrick Bird to lay his greasy little palm on firearms much more to be able to use them to create mayhem.

I hope that the politians of all colous will use this unfortunate inccident to legislate and curtail the use of firearms, in order that we do not have to go through another devastating incident like this.

My condolences go out to the families of Whitehaven, that lost their love ones, I hope and pray that they will somehow have the strength to go through this bleak period of their lives and come out the other-side stronger.
