THREE shots were fired into a sleeping toddler’s bedroom in Adelaide in what police believe is an ongoing family feud about money.
Two adults and the two-year-old boy were woken at 4.35am CST (5:05am AEST) on Wednesday by loud banging sounds at their home in Trinity Gardens, in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.
Detective chief inspector (DCI) John Gerlach said the occupants called police suspecting a break-in. Then they discovered at least seven shots had been fired into the front fence, the house and through the boy’s bedroom window. “They were very distraught by the incident, as you can well imagine with a child in the room,” he said.
“Three bullets had passed through the front bedroom window, two of those bullets lodged in the wall of that bedroom, at the time there was a two-year-old boy asleep in that bedroom.
“Four other projectiles hit the brickwork surrounding that same bedroom. “Fortunately the rounds passed through the window from low to high and lodged in the wall near the ceiling.” DCI Gerlach said it was not a random attack. “We believe at this early stage it is probably a dispute between family members,” he said. “It may have something to do with money, but I don’t want to elaborate.”
Police are pursuing several lines of inquiry and say no arrests have been made in relation to the shooting. The detective said the shooting was not gang-related nor linked to other shootings across the city over the past few weeks. He called for anyone with any information about the vehicle to tell police.
