Crash: The number 55 bus after hitting a pedestrian in central London today

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a bus in central London.

The number 55 double-decker struck the pedestrian in Bloomsbury Square at about 11.30am today.

He suffered a serious arm injury during the collision and was taken to the Royal London Hospital, east London, where he remains.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 11.25am to reports of a road traffic accident involving a bus and a pedestrian in Bloomsbury Square.

“We sent a cycle paramedic, an ambulance crew, a motorcycle paramedic and the air ambulance to the scene. Staff treated a man for a serious arm injury and the patient was taken to the Royal London Hospital.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 11.30am to Bloomsbury Square to reports of bus in collision with a pedestrian.

“The male pedestrian suffered serious injuries and he was airlifted by air ambulance to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”
