D – Day – Thank God for these brave souls

By Sandrea: MY GRIPE

As the world remember June 6 1944, and for the great majority of us who were not even born then, history has gave us the details of this remarkable day.  On this day in 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy, France.  Comprising of  of Americans, British and Canadians, led by General Dwight Eisenhower.

There were nearly, 10,000 Allied casualties however, as is documented, “The success of D-Day was a death knell for the Germans. Hitler was forced to fight a two-front war against the Russians on the East and the Americans, British, Canadians, and French on the West. Within a year, Hitler committed suicide, and the war was over”.

I, and a great many people in my age group was not born during this historic period of the world, but I can still appreciated the sacrifice that was made in order that I can be a free person and that totalitarian was stopped in it’s tracks.

Today, on the 66 anniversary of those brave arm men, let us take a moment to thank them for their sacrifice, let us take a minute to remember that many lost their lives to give us a free world.  On this day, I hope that all warring factions and countries will take a moment to remember that united we stand and divided we fall.

For members of the services that are alive today, I salute your bravery and acknowledge that without your fortitude, I cannot image what this world would have look like.

On this day the world need to take a fresh look at ourselves and realise that these men have given their lives to prevent aggression, dictatorship and the extinction of a race of people.

So, for me today, I would like to say thank you, the grace of God, be with those who are no longer with us and those whose lost their lives at Normandy.  Those that are still alive I respect and will always cherish your sacrifice.
