Toddler’s deadly fall at Lakers game an accident, LA coroner finds

THE Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office found Tuesday that the fall that killed a toddler at the Staples Center on Sunday was accidental, The Orange County Register reported.

Two-year-old Lucas Anthony Tang died of multiple traumatic injuries after plunging 15m over the top of a glass partition minutes after the Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors 117-89 Sunday night, John Kades, a captain with the Coroner’s Office, said.

The child was in a luxury suite with his family when the incident occurred while they were taking pictures at about 9:15pm local time, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officials said the boy’s parents were reviewing pictures they had taken on a digital camera moments before he wandered out of their sight and fell.

He was taken to County-USC Medical Center and died at the hospital about 11:40pm, according to coroner’s officials.

The incident is still being investigated by the LAPD’s Juvenile Division and it is yet to be determined exactly what Lucas was doing before the fall.

The barriers in front of the suite comply with Los Angeles city codes, an official told the Los Angeles Times.
