Toddler Critical After Pool Fall During Match

A two-year old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after being found unconscious at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool during England’s first World Cup match.

The toddler was discovered in the pool of the Abshot Country Club near Fareham on Saturday evening.

Club member John Howett heard a woman scream and ran to see what was going on.

“We found the child on the floor, soaking wet and obviously been in the pool,” he said.

“His skin was white and his lips were black so we started CPR.

“We continued until the first aiders arrived”.

Sky’s Amy Lewis said a group of five children had been watching the game between England and the USA.

“The boy somehow managed to wander from the room where they were watching the game to a neighbouring room where there was a pool,” she said.

“I have been speaking to the manager here about the evening.

“He said it was incredibly traumatic, particularly as he knows the family very well”.
