As the world watched the continuing saga and fall-out of the Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke affair, the people of Jamaica must be wondering when will this end.
The claims and counter-claims keep the nation and the world gripped. The last few days this affair has pushed Jamaica firmly into the eyes of the international community and not in a positive way.
It pains me to read, headlines calling part of Jamaica ‘slum’.
Each day see more and more head-lines telling us the measures/counter measures and steps that have been taken to get Mr Coke to surrender.
Today’s cartoon from the Observer and it’s caption ” Oh Tivoli, you are so innocent and adorable” . I do not see Tivoli as innocent or adorable because this is where the whole saga of the ‘dudus’ affair started. It was the people of Tivoli that began the blockade to prevent the security forces from entering to search for Mr Coke.
I am not condeming these people, ( I disagree with the caption) I do not live in the area and neither does many of the individuals within the international communities that has no idea what ‘Dudus’ has done for these people to make them want to protect him at all cost, even with their lives. There is only speculations and innuendos as to the part that Christopher played in the lives of many of the residents of Tivoli gardens.
Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke must be revelling in the celebrity status that the world as catapult him into, to be able to have the world talking about him, have members of church, lawyers, journalist all queuing to speak with him, people dying to protect him, I do not believe that he had ever dreamt that he would be elevate to such a high position.
For a person that has kept a low profile, it is very hard for him to remain in hiding for much longer as wherever he goes he will be identified and he knew that both the Jamaican and US security services are poised and ready to take him down this cannot make him feel any sense of safety, wherever he his.
In the interest of the people of Tivoli and for the good of the country, it is time for Mr Coke to come out of hiding and put an end to unfortunate saga.
Jamaica needs to heal, it’s people need to get back to their everyday easy living life, and remove this cloud of darkness that as been hanging over them for far too long.
COME ON ‘DUDUS’ BE A MAN ABOUT IT.
