OXNARD — A Ventura County school district board member was sentenced to 17 years in prison for molesting a girl for five years and fathering her child.
Rio Hondo School District board member Brian Martin pleaded guilty last month to continuous sexual abuse of a child and an additional count of child molestation.
The 49-year-old Rio School District board member also admitted a special allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury upon the child victim and that he engaged in substantial sexual conduct with her.
Martin is accused of molesting the girl from 2005, when she was 10, through February 2010.
Martin is a mechanic and electrician, and has been on the district’s board of trustees since 2006.
He has also been active community organizations including the El Rio Little League.
Her child was born in November of last year and put up for adoption.
Martin was accused by his wife of fathering the child. The girl was reportedly one of his wife’s relatives.
Martin’s wife has filed for divorce.
Martin is being held without bail and faces 21 years in state prison.
