One dead after shooting on nuclear sub

ONE person died and another was in life-threatening condition today after shots were fired onboard the British nuclear submarine HMS Astute while it was docked in Southampton, southern England, police said.

Police said they have arrested a servicemember over the shooting, but stressed the incident was not terror related.

A statement released said police: “were called by their Ministry of Defence (MOD) colleagues at 12:12pm today, Friday, and are currently liaising with them to establish the exact circumstances of the incident. It is believed two people have sustained injuries as a result of gunshots being discharged on the vessel,” the statement said.

HMS Astute arrived at Southampton on Wednesday following 46 days at sea for a five-day stay.
