Men remanded on robbery charge

Three men in their 20s were denied bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday following allegations that they were involved in stealing a cellular phone and cash from two women.

The men, identified as 20-year-old Delroy Smith, 21-year-old Bradley Black and Noel Patterson, 26 years old, all pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery with aggravation.

Smith, Black and Patterson were apprehended by the police when they were identified by the complainants half-hour after the alleged incident.

According to allegations, at 8:15 p.m. on April 24, the complainants were walking along Waterloo Road when they were approached and robbed by three men. The reports say one of the men used a knife to restrict the complainants from escaping while the other men searched them.

It is alleged that a Nokia cellular phone and $7,000 were taken from the women. After the men left, the complainants went to a security post to get help and were being escorted home when they spotted their attackers.

The men were identified to the police and were arrested and charged. They were remanded and should return to court on May 5.
