London sex killer still on loose despite DNA, CCTV evidence

BRITISH detectives were intensifying their search for a serial rapist who killed a woman, after attacking all nine of his victims in the same square mile of London.

Police have clear CCTV footage of the man and DNA evidence linking him to the crimes in Walthamstow, east London, but he has so far evaded capture, The Waltham Forest Guardian reported.

Officers will step up the investigation this week by posting leaflets in 60,500 homes in the area in a bid to encourage people to come forward with information.

Michelle Samaraweera, 35, was raped and strangled in a park in Walthamstow in May 2009. In September this year police released CCTV images of a man entering a grocery store after Samaraweera visited the shop.

The man raped three other women and sexually assaulted at least five more in the area within a six month period.

One rape victim was a 59-year-old woman who was attacked after the man forced his way into her home in March last year.

Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Hill, from the Metropolitan Police’s homicide team, said: “This latest appeal is designed to reach any members of the community who may have missed any previous appeals and the reward of up to £20,000 for information about Michelle’s murder and the linked assaults.

“Someone knows who committed these attacks and can help the devastated family of Michelle finally move forward.”

“The pictures are so clear that we remain confident someone will know him and lead us to his current whereabouts,” he added.
