For decades now I have read about ‘honour killings’ and these days there seems to be more and more of these types of murders in the papers.
Is it just that more people are reporting them? Or is it because individual are simply fed up with these senseless slaying?
I would appreciate it if someone could let me know or even understand the reasons that supposedly educated people resort to such vile and inhuman act, as to me they just reeked of stupidity. Why would anyone want to slaughter their children because of acts that they, or the community deemed to be shameful.
It seems that although we are living in the 21st century, there are sections of the worlds community that are firmly stuck in the pass, we need to educate these individuals.
I understand culture, but there are aspects of some culture that does not measure up to a progressive society and these should surely be abolished, as they really do not serve any purpose but to cause mayhem and destruction to families. I find it hard to believe that a parent could sanctioned the murder of their children, irrespective of what they may or may not do to caused shame upon the family.
Considering that the great majority of children, as many parent are well aware, our children do things most of the time that unpalatable to us, if were were to systematically kill them, in the name of honour, there would be few children left in the world.
For me these kind of murders makes me sick, because unfortunately, I simply cannot understand it or see the benefit to a community.
According to the newspapers there are no national figures as to the amount of ‘honour killings’ that happen in India, but there is an estimation that hundreds of men and women die ever year due to this futile belief.
When one read that these killings are sometimes carried out by outraged villagers, with the tacit approval of so-called village council the wield considerable political clout. This take me back to religion and the fact that many of these people will say they are doing so on religious grounds – so what part of ‘leave all vengeance to me’ as per the bible, that they fail to understand.
These people need to arise out of the darkness and come into the light, because if honour killings were suppose to act as a deterrent, then they would not be continuing. Human beings will always act, in terms of matter of the heart, foolishly and no amount of murders is going to prevent this, so the society that practice this barbaric way of life need to draw a line under these senseless slaying of people and let their family members get on with their lives, make their own mistakes, as that is what make us humans.
