HIV acrobat remanded in custody

A CIRCUS acrobat accused of knowingly spreading HIV by having unprotected sex with women will remain in custody until next month.

Godfrey Zaburoni, 31, has faced the Southport Magistrates Court on one charge of causing grievous bodily harm and one charge of intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

No application for bail was made and bail was formally refused following Zaburoni’s extradition from New South Wales yesterday.  Magistrate Gary Finger remanded him in custody until June 9, when the case will return to court.  Mr Finger banned the publication of any information about the woman to whom the charges relate.

Police will allege Mr Zaburoni travelled around Queensland, NSW and Victoria, having unprotected sex with at least 12 women despite knowing he was HIV positive. The case has sparked a national appeal for any women who may have had sex with Mr Zaburoni to come forward for tests.
