Fatal drive-by in San Jose parking lot

A 20-year-old Santa Clara man was shot to death in an East San Jose parking lot early Sunday morning, police said.

The incident occurred at a shopping center at the busy intersection of Story and King roads, said Dirk Parsons, a San Jose police spokesman.

“Witnesses say the victim was walking in the lot when a car came cruising by slowly,” Parsons said. “A shot rang out, and the victim was hit. The car took off. We have no description on the vehicle or how many people were inside.”

A call reporting the shooting came in at 2:56 a.m., he said. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parsons said police don’t know the motive or if the shooting was gang-related.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call the San Jose Police Department’s homicide unit at (408) 277-5283 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (408) 947-7867.
